05/05/2022 BEV? HYBRID? PHEV? A Brief Explanation. A basic understanding (including clean car rebates). A BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) must be charged to get from A to B. This can be done by plugging in to a standard wall plug at home (although that method may take quite a while) or with a fast-charger. A Hybrid vehicle has an electric motor plus a petrol or diesel engine. Fill up at a fuel station and the petrol or diesel engine charges the battery. When there's enough charge, the car runs off the electric motor. A PHEV vehicle (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has an electric motor plus a petrol or diesel engine. Fill up at a fuel station. To charge the battery, plug in like an EV. When it runs out of battery power it automatically switches to the petrol or diesel engine. Examples below. Prices include All ORCs, 12 months registration, 12 months WOF, 12 months warranty (MBI) & $100 fuel. Cars under $50k come ...

13/11/2021 https://www.driven.co.nz/news/buying-cars-from-overseas-our-picks-from-japan-the-uk-and-australia/ Buying cars from overseas: our picks from Japan, the UK and Australia Buying a car from overseas has become a lot more realistic over the past few years. As we are locked down and away, our buying habits have turned online, from groceries to big ticket items like cars, and while local manufacturers like Toyota, Honda and Mercedes are promoting their online, fixed-price purchasing, the next step is to consider buying something a little more special. And for that, we can look beyond the shores, as the world was really made smaller by the internet. Companies can facilitate these purchases, including those like Auckland-based Autoport, who have arms in places like Japan and the UK, where they can locate, source, import and register specific vehicles. Of course, convenience comes at a cost, so there’s nothing t...

30/10/2021 https://www.driven.co.nz/news/buying-cars-from-overseas-online-hit-return-select-drive/ Buying cars from overseas online: hit Return, select Drive. Supply of new and near-new vehicles in New Zealand has been severely affected by Covid-19 (and the related semi-conductor crisis in the case of the former). And Auckland has now experienced another two months of lockdown. It’s a buying environment that naturally steers customers of all kinds towards alternative solutions as they search for the right product. Buying consumer durables online from overseas has become second nature to NZers; so why not cars? Many distributorships and dealers already offer comprehensive online tools for potential buyers. Brands like Toyota and Honda are actively encouraging new-vehicle customers to make the internet key to their purchasing process. During NZ’s first lockdown early last year, Turners Auctions really ramped up its...
